BS2019: SEENET-MTP Balkan School on High Energy and Particle Physics: Theory and Phenomenology

SEENET-training programme: BS2019 is the 1st school of the second cycle of the CERN-SEENET-MTP PhD training programme mainly addressed to PhD students as well as young post-docs and advanced MSc students. The lectures will cover a broad range of topics in the area of high energy physics and cosmology. The School is a resumption of the previous successful CERN-SEENET-MTP schools (Belgrade 2015, Bucharest 2015, Timisoara 2016, Sofia 2017, Nis 2018). Registration:
All participants are kindly requested to register online. Registration deadline: April 25, 2019 (extended April 30, 2019).
Registration fee:

The registration fee is 75 EUROS to be paid upon arrival. The registration fee includes admission to school sessions and coffee breaks. The registration fee can be waived for PhD students and young postdocs from SEENET countries who have no other financial support.

By Air
Ioannina King Pyrros Airport(IOA), located 5 km from the city center, is connected with the Athens El. Venizelos International Airport (ATH). There are one or two flights, daily, from Athens to Ioannina (the duration of the flight is 50 minutes). Other airports are: Thessalonique International Airport(SKG), located 260 km from Ioannina, about 3 hours by car or bus via the Egnatia Highway. Aktion/Preveza Airport PVK, located 120 km from Ioannina, about 2 hours by car or 3 hours by bus. Corfu International Airport (CFU), located in the island of Corfu, ferry lines to Igoumenitsa port (1.5 hours) and car or bus from Igoumenitsa to Ioannina (80 km, about 45 minutes). Nea Anchialos/Volos Airport (VOL) located 250 km from Ioannina, about 4 hours by car or bus.


By Bus
Ioannica city is located 450 NE from Athens, 260km from Thessaloniki and 80km east from the port of Igoumenitsa. Buses are in general modern, big and comfortable. There are about 7-8 bus services every day from Athens to Ioannina and vice versa. There are also about 6 daily bus services from Thessaloniki to Ioannina and vice versa. Daily bus services are also provided to and from Patras, Igoumenitsa, Volos, Preveza, and other big cities.

How to reach DI.K.E.P.P.E.E. Center "Stavros Niarchos":

From Ioannina (Central Bus Station):
Usually there are taxis waiting outside the Ioannina bus station. The taxi fare from the station to the center will be around 8 Euros. Alternatively, you can walk about 15 minutes to the City Center and take the city bus (number 16 or 17) from there.

From Ioannina (city center)
You can take the city bus (number 16 or 17) running every 10 minutes from the Central Square, opposite the Court House. One-way tickets cost 1.5 Euro and can be purchased from kiosks (ask for a "yellow" ticket). You can also purchase the ticket from the driver at 2 Euros. Depending on traffic, the bus journey to/from University from/to downtown takes 15-20 minutes.The taxi fare is approximately 6 Euros.


From the Ioannina Airport
You can take the city bus (number 2) to the city center (running every 20 minutes), and then change bus (number 16 or 17) to the University. Alternatively, you can take a taxi. The taxi fare from the airport to the University is approximately 14 euros.
